To all players, non-players, supporters and spectators of Orkney Rugby Football Club: Following an incident at the First XV home game against The West of Scotland where abusive and inflammatory language was used against the Referee we have received a disciplinary letter from the SRU. Please can I remind all that without referees we would not have the game of rugby played in Orkney. Whether or not you agree with their decisions there is no need for the use of unacceptable language directed at the referees, can I remind you that we are a community and family club where women and children are in attendance at our games and that the use of such language is totally unacceptable and a poor example to the youngsters who attend. The game of rugby is built on mutual respect, that is respect for your officials, respect for the opposition players, respect for your own players, respect for your coaches and finally respect for yourself in the way you should conduct yourself while participating in the game of rugby whether as player or spectator. I am sorry if this sounds like a lecture but I feel passionately about the game of rugby and anything that brings the game into disrepute is totally unacceptable.
