On Friday 3rd April 2015, 67 kids ranging from P1-P7 were involved in Orkney Rugby Club’s annual Easter Rugby Activity Day organised by Tom Hughes and Mark Sinclair. As usual the groups were split with the P1-3s running from 10am – 12noon and the P4-7s from 1pm – 3pm at Orkney Rugby Club. With conditions holding up well, the day was a massive success. On Friday 27th March 7 U15 Orkney Girls joined with Caithness and Golspie to compete in the Brewin Dolphin Shield Final. After team talks in the changing rooms to calm the anticipation and realisation of playing at such a big venue, the girls got straight into the game against Hillhead Jordanhill. The first 10 minutes of the game was played evenly with both sides tackling and running hard. The score reached 10-5 to Hillhead Jordanhill in this period of play. On Friday 27th March, 7 Orkney Girls, 2 Golspie Girls, and 12 Caithness girls joined up to battle as a team for the Brewin Dolphin Shield. They travelled down to Edinburgh to play at Murrayfield Stadium to play in the Shield Final against Oban High School. Oban failed to present a full team, and so the game was played 11 a side with both teams sounding well up for the game. The North side got off to a great start, scoring a try within the first 2 minutes. This boosted the confidence of the North side and some fantastic Rugby was on display, with many girls breaking through the Oban defence to score. Several of these tries being passed out wide and had many people on the sideline complimenting the skill level of the squad. |
